A customer needed a cutting file (DXF or Drawing Interchange Format) to send to their waterjet. A previously botched attempt had cost them thousands of dollars in material.
First, the PDF was brought into SolidWorks and scaled at the pixel level using this scale tool:
Then, it was traced at a pixel-level zoom using the spline tool:
Finally, since many machines cannot handle spline DXFs, the splines were traced over with tangent arcs:
. . . and the DXF file was exported from that.
